Rabbi Lyle S. Rothman is a proud Long Islander from East Meadow, New York. He spent the better part of the past decade working in Hillel and serving as the rabbi and spiritual leader in campus contexts. He joined the University of Miami family in 2016 as the Campus Rabbi and Jewish Chaplain for University of Miami Hillel. In 2017, he was elected to be the Chair of the University Chaplains Association, a group of clergy trained to provide spiritual guidance and support to the greater UM community. During rabbinical school, Rabbi Rothman served as the Reform Rabbinic Intern at Columbia/Barnard Hillel and previously as the Director of Jewish life and Learning at Hofstra University Hillel.
Rabbi Rothman was ordained and received a master’s degree in religious education from the New York campus of Hebrew Union College-JIR in May 2012. He is part of the Shalom Hartman Institute Fellowship and appeared on MTV News discussing the importance of LGBTQ inclusion and his own coming out story. He is passionately dedicated to multifaith work and is part of a group of clergy who traveled to Abu Dhabi, UAE and Rabat, Morocco as part of the American Peace Caravan and the Multi-Faith Neighbors Network initiative.
Rabbi Rothman loves British comedy, cooking, and takes pride in his knowledge of local news and weather personalities. Yes, Rabbi Rothman always wanted to be a weatherman. He is excited to return to Long Island along with his fiance Sam Dubin and their dog Mia.
