Next Meeting: Fall 2025

Rabbi Perlman has served as the Associate Rabbi of Temple Beth Israel since 2021. She is a second-career rabbi. As an undergraduate student, Rabbi Perlman wanted to study in the Rabbinical School of the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS), but was told, "Girls can't become rabbis." Fast forward a career as a journalist and a communications professional, and Rabbi Perlman was finally able to fulfill a lifelong dream - in 2018, she was ordained as a Rabbi by JTS.

Rabbi Perlman also serves as the Rabbi-in-Residence at the Stern Rehabilitation Center at North Shore University Hospital. She has also served as a Jewish Chaplain at NSUH, where she completed four intensive chaplaincy internships.

A Port Washington resident, Rabbi Perlman lives with her husband, Burt Falkenstein, and together they enjoy their four married children and five grandchildren.

About Rosh Chodesh:
What is Rosh Chodesh? A special day that Jewish feminists have "reclaimed" for feminine spirituality. Tradition says that as a reward for our faithfulness, God gave women Rosh Chodesh, the first day of the new month, and even exempted us from our usual household duties. Take a morning just for yourself, and for Jewish study and renewal. The Port Washington Rosh Chodesh Group meets at the start of every new Jewish month.   We are a warm, friendly inter-generational group of Jewish women (men welcome, too!) exploring new and timeless topics and texts.

The Rosh Chodesh Group is jointly sponsored by The Community Synagogue, Port Jewish Center, and Temple Beth Israel.
