Are you looking for ways to deepen your connection with The Community Synagogue? There are plenty of opportunities for you to contribute to our vibrant community! In addition to joining groups like Sisterhood, Brotherhood, Theater Group, and Villages, we have many committees that manage and enhance the programs we offer.
Below you can find a list of our current committees and a brief description. If you are interested in applying for a specific committee or multiple committees, please complete the form below and someone from the nominating committee will review applications as vacancies arise.
ANTISEMITISM COMMITTEE
Advisory committee to serve in consultation with the clergy.
CARING COMMITTEE
The purpose of the Committee is to provide support and comfort for members and their families during times of need.
CEMETERY COMMITTEE
Oversee the management of the synagogue's grave sites at the Beth Moses Cemetery in Farmingdale. Discuss maintenance needs and periodically check on the cemetery plot and report any recommendations.
CLERGY COMMITTEE
Liaison between clergy, lay leaders, and synagogue members.
ECC PARENT COMMITTEE
Works with ECC Director to develop and maintain quality of the pre-school and fundraisers for specific ECC projects.
FACILITIES COMMITTEE
Responsible for reviewing building and grounds and providing input to synagogue Executive Director and Facilities Manager regarding maintenance issues, building concerns and improvements. Provides input and establishes guidelines relating to synagogue rental of facilities for events, celebrations and programs. Seeks out new opportunities to utilize TCS' common spaces to general rental revenue. Responsible for interior design and decor decisions and for maintenance of the synagogue archives.
FINANCE COMMITTEE
Prepares annual operating budget, monitors revenues and expenditures, makes recommendations regarding financial matters, establishes financial policies and procedures.
HR COMMITTEE
Responsible for HR matters including compensation and hiring.
INTERFAITH COMMITTEE
Creates programs and activities to engage interfaith families so that they feel welcomed and engaged in the congregation.
INVESTMENT COMMITTEE
Reviews financial investments and manages financial portfolios as deemed under the Investment Policy.
MARKETING COMMITTEE
Provides strategic support and direction for all marketing and communications efforts aimed at our members and the broader community. The committee plays a key role in recommending enhancements to our website and actively contributes to the development and review of marketing materials for special events and Days of Awe.
MEMBER ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE
Responsible for developing and executing best practices in attracting and retaining members. Plans and executes new member welcome programs and events throughout the year. Community Groups (Interfaith and Inclusion).
OPEN MINDS COMMITTEE
Plans adult educational programs, classes and study groups for the congregation and the community.
RELIGIOUS LIVING COMMITTEE
Works with our clergy to enhance worship and ritual experiences, including oversight and development of our service structure throughout the year and during the Days of Awe.
RELIGIOUS SCHOOL COMMITTEE
Works with Religious School Director to develop and maintain quality of the educational programming for our students and adolescents.
SAFETY & SECURITY COMMITTEE
Creates, reviews, and evaluates policies and practices as well as the use of personnel and equipment for the purpose of maintaining the safety of people and property within our facilities. This includes physical security and cybersecurity.
SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE
Creates programs and activities to help people in need. Provides congregational leadership in areas of Jewish social justice, advocacy and support for Israel.
TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE
Provides consultation on IT upgrades and advancements. Includes technology and media.

4:30 pm – Afternoon (Mincha) Service
