Hanassi Fellowship Program Inspired by Alona Nir's Ten-Day Residency Experience at TCS

Israeli FlagDuring Yom Kippur and Sukkot 2012, Israeli rabbinical student, Alona Nir participated in a unique experience: a ten-day residency mentored by Rabbi Zeplowitz.

The success of Alona's visit with TCS inspired John Golden, Co-Chair of the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) and the Golden Family Foundation,  to provide a generous grant to initiate a five year program that will bring Israeli rabbinical students into closer contact with the North American Reform Movement. The Hanassi Fellowships serve as a conduit to provide opportunities for Israeli rabbinical students at HUC-JIR in Jerusalem to be more deeply exposed to Reform Jewry in North America.

Reflecting on her transformative experience with us at TCS, Alona Nir concludes, "It is a privilege to help forge stronger links of commitment and identification between Reform Jews and congregations in North America and the people and State of Israel."
