Mitzvah Corps - Members Helping Others
Mitzvah Corps
The ability to care for and love one another is an important Jewish virtue and the ultimate goal of the MITZVAH CORPS of TCS. We strive to ensure that no TCS member is alone in a time of need.
In order to achieve this goal, WE NEED YOUR HELP! We need volunteers to:
- drive congregants to doctor appointments, medical treatments, etc.,
- prepare a meal for an ill congregant and/or their family,
- visit or arrange a visit to a homebound or elderly congregant,
- provide rides to services or other synagogue activities.
We sponsor many meaningful projects throughout the year. Please look them over and contact us if you would like to learn more or volunteer.
SEPTEMBER--Rosh Hashanah gift packages of apples and honey are prepared and delivered to those congregants who lost a loved one during the past year.
DECEMBER--Chanukah service and celebration for the residents of the Sands Point Center for Health and Rehabilitation.
SPRING--Passover seder and celebration for the residents of the Sands Point Center for Health and Rehabilitation.
GENERAL--Fresh fruit drives, deliveries to local pantries, charities etc. We aim to provide help to any of our congregants who are in need.
Please contact the following people if you would like to volunteer or are in need of help in any way.

Rock and Wrap It Up! Helps Fight Hunger
The Community Synagogue has a wonderful system for donating leftover food from Temple events such as Kiddush Luncheons and Oneg Shabbat evenings. Rock and Wrap It Up! (RWU) is a non-profit organization established in 1991 whose primary mission is to feed those who hunger using safely recovered, leftover food through a growing network of volunteers.
To donate leftovers from events at The Community Synagogue, contact the following Mitzvah Corp members to coordinate the date and time of the event and establish what, when and where leftovers will be picked up. A minimum of one week lead time is appreciated in order to coordinate efficiently.
The Mitzvah Corp. will coordinate with a parent and/or student volunteer to handle the specific food storage and delivery details. Currently, we deliver food to local food pantries in Port Washington.
This is a great opportunity for all of our students -- bar and bat mitzvah age as well as high school students -- who have their driver's license, and a wonderful family activity that requires very little time and guarantees a very good feeling of preventing waste and supporting our community.
