Worship style of The Community Synagogue

The Community Synagogue's worship style can be characterized as being part of the traditionalist wing of Reform Judaism. The congregation observes two days of Rosh Ha Shanah. There is a lay/professional choir that participates on the average of one Friday evening a month, as well as on Shabbat mornings when there is a bar/bat mitzvah ceremony. There is a good amount of Hebrew in the service. The congregation uses Gates of Prayer and Gates of Repentance, as well as a number of creative liturgies.

Spiritual growth is clearly the emerging item on our congregation's agenda. In order to facilitate that growth, we have several worship options:

A "regular" 8:30pm service. These usually feature a regular sermon, and sometimes the presence of the Choir.

A monthly Religious School Shabbat at 7:30, preceded by a dinner. This service features our new cantorial intern, Natalie Young. A regular "Tot Shabbat" service on Shabbat morning, geared to our youngest children.

For those young people who have "outgrown" Tot Shabbat, there is a new Junior Congregation service held once a month on Shabbat mornings at 10:30 AM.

There is an alternate Shabbat morning service -- Shabbat Havurah -- for those who want to pray more informally, with chanting and teaching as part of the service. The service is kid-friendly. Come as you are.
