
Ben Sternman
Rabbi
Biography
Born and raised in Syosset, Long Island, Ben Sternman was active at North
Shore Synagogue from Cradle Roll through Hebrew High School. In 1988, he graduated
from Cornell University with a degree in History. After working for two years
in the insurance industry, he returned to Cornell’s Johnson Graduate
School of Management from which he graduated with an MBA in Finance. He then
moved to Cleveland, Ohio to work at Eaton Corp. in a variety of financial
functions. While in Cleveland, he joined and became active at Fairmount Temple
holding a variety of positions in their Young People’s Congregation
ranging from board member at large to President of the Board. It was during
this period when his rabbi came to him and suggested a career change to become
a rabbi. After ordination in 2003 from the New York Campus of Hebrew Union
College – Jewish Institute of Religion, Rabbi Sternman moved to Austin,
Texas to become the Assistant Rabbi at Congregation Beth Israel. In July 2008,
Rabbi Sternman returned to New York to become a rabbi at The Community Synagogue.
Rabbi Sternman’s areas of particular interest include teaching of all
ages at all levels, Talmud and Rabbinic Literature, and making stained glass
panels.
Ben is Robert (z”l) and Marjorie’s son, Jeanne and Bill’s
bratty younger brother, Larry and Jean’s brother-in-law, and Flora,
Ross, Madeleine, and Sam’s loving Uncle Ben.
